I remember teaching my older cousin how to use a computer mouse.

He kept lifting it off the desk like a TV remote and pointing it at the screen.

We laughed about it then, but here’s what keeps me up at night.

Right now, there are smart, capable professionals doing the digital equivalent of that mouse mistake every single day.

They’re spending hours on tasks that AI could handle in minutes.

They’re manually writing emails when they could be scaling their message.

They’re struggling with content when they could be focusing on strategy.

And much like not knowing how to Google became a career liability in the 2000s, not knowing how to use AI effectively is quickly becoming the new digital divide.

    The New Digital Literacy

A friend recently told me she “doesn’t have time” to learn AI.

I asked her how long it took to write her last sales page.

    “Three days,” she said.

I pulled out my phone, opened ChatGPT, and showed her how to generate a solid first draft in under 5 minutes.

Her response? “That would have saved me 20 hours of work.”

This isn’t about replacing human creativity or expertise. It’s about removing the friction that keeps you from applying your expertise at scale.

    The Ultimate Meta-Skill

Here’s why AI is different from every other tech skill you’ve had to learn.

It’s not just one skill, it’s access to dozens of skills.

With the right prompts, AI becomes:

    • Your personal writing coach
    • Your marketing strategist
    • Your research assistant
    • Your coding partner
    • Your business advisor

One of my clients, a management consultant, struggled with understanding financial statements. Instead of taking a 6-week course, she now uses this prompt:

“Pretend you’re a CFO explaining this balance sheet to someone without a finance background. What are the three most important things I should understand, and what questions should I be asking?”

And here’s one of my favorite prompts whenever I’m pitching a speaking gig.

“Pretend you’re an event organizer for a conference that caters to entrepreneurs. Read my pitch, then give me three reasons they would say no, and what I should change to make them say yes.”

These aren’t shortcuts. They’re strategic accelerators that let you focus on the work only you can do.

The Framework: Getting Started Without Overwhelm

If you’re still on the fence about AI, here’s a simple framework to get started without feeling overwhelmed.

    1. Identify One Task You’re Already Doing Pick something you do regularly that takes too much time. Planning a trip, creating a presentation, writing a proposal, or drafting social media content.
    2. Ask AI How It Can Help The simplest prompt: “I need to [task]. How can you help me do this more efficiently?” Then let the AI guide you through the possibilities.
    3. Commit to Following Through Take the AI’s suggestions and actually implement them. The magic happens when you move from curiosity to application.
    4. Expand to More Activities Once you’ve experienced the time-saving potential in one area, identify another task and repeat the process.

This isn’t about becoming an AI expert overnight. It’s about finding one area where AI can give you back hours in your week, then building from there.

    The Real Question

The question isn’t whether AI will change how we work, it already has.

The real question is whether you’ll be ahead of the curve or playing catch-up.

Because your competitors aren’t debating whether to use AI. They’re figuring out how to use it better.

And keep this in mind; the most powerful technology isn’t the one that’s most complex, it’s the one you actually use.

    You got this,
