I was recently cast on a reality show called 60 Day Hustle. On the show entrepreneurs compete to win $100k for their business, I was one of the judges.

The show comes out August 8th and I’ll share a link once it does, but that’s not what I wanted to talk about today.

Instead, I’d rather share something that will help you reach your goals, whether that’s appearing on the red carpet or just supporting your family on your own terms.

To do so, I’ll need to tell you how I landed a role on this show. It’s produced by Rudy Mawer, a serial entrepreneur and founder of Mawer Capital. I met Rudy Mawer when he hired me for a brief consulting session on a platform called Intro. We formed a relationship over the years so when it was time for him to select judges for his show, he thought of me and reached out.

I don’t know what’s going to come from appearing on the TV show. However, I do know Rudy has been extremely generous in regard to sharing resources and opportunities.

But then I started to feel guilty. I realized that I rarely reached out to Rudy to see how I could support him or his business.

Instead of feeling bad about it, I made a plan.

I started by revisiting the vision I have for my life.

Then, I identified five people – that I already know – who can help me make progress towards that goal.

Next, I blocked off time every week to nurture that relationship, even if it’s just a quick text message.

How did I find the time? I identified a few people and opportunities that were taking up a lot of time but not helping me make progress towards my goals.

The friends from high school sending me random memes, those virtual coffee chats that don’t have a clear purpose.

I started saying no to all of that so I could focus on relationships and opportunities that are more useful and meaningful.

Was it easy? In some cases yes. In others, no. But it was always necessary.

And if you’re ready to make a power move too, here’s a quick summary.

    • Revisit the vision you have for your future
    • Identify five people in your network who can help you make progress
    • Block off time to connect with them every week

It may seem cool to have a bunch of social media followers, but having an email list is the best way to build relationships with your audience, which can also build your business. One of the reasons I use ConvertKit for my newsletter is their Creator Network. This resource helps you grow your list on auto-pilot by receiving recommendations from other creators. And if you have less than 10k email subscribers, you can use Convertkit at no cost. Take advantage of it!

That’s it from me. Now it’s time to go identify the five people who can help you live in your vision!
