Don’t Give Up on LinkedIn: How to Boost Your Impact

Want to receive my
newsletter every week?

We’ll send one thought, one tactic, and one time saver straight to your inbox. No fluff, just proven techniques for growing your business.

My son was home sick this week so my schedule got thrown off a bit. But, I’m constantly preaching about why it’s important to leverage a high-performance mindset so I took my own advice and pushed through.

And if you’d like to learn how, I partnered with LinkedIn to create a short course that will teach you how to thrive as an entrepreneur, even in challenging situations.

My course, Developing a High-Performance Entrepreneur Mindset, is free, less than six minutes long and provides guidance that you can immediately implement.

We’re going to continue focusing on LinkedIn in this issue as we walk through why you should continue posting on LinkedIn, even if you’re not getting as much engagement as you’d like.

You’ll also discover valuable tips to help you grow your impact and build relationships.

    So, let’s get started!

    Read time: 3 minutes

Posting content builds your credibility and authority.

Even if your post flopped, the views never go down, they only go up.

So who’s viewing your posts from three months ago? It could be a prospect or potential business partner who’s doing some research on you.

And through your old content they’ll have multiple opportunities to learn about your expertise, personality and worldview. This builds your credibility, generates inbound leads and helps you close deals faster.

    Action item:

Make it easier for people to discover your high value content. Add a few of your most thoughtful posts to the Featured Content section of your profile. (instructions here)

    Sharing content makes you smarter.

To create content you must consume content. Otherwise you’ll eventually bore everyone, including yourself.

Consuming content can take many forms:

    • Books
    • Podcasts
    • Webinars
    • LinkedIn posts

But the outcome is the same. You’re giving yourself the opportunity to learn something new, apply it to your work, then share it with others.

So by constantly creating content you’ll have a reservoir of thoughts, ideas and advice to recall in real time conversations and through your content.

    Action item:

Identify a book, podcast webinar or other form of educational content that you found valuable. Then, create a LinkedIn post sharing your key takeaways and how others can apply what you’ve learned. Be sure to tag the expert who’s work your sharing. This could help you build a relationship with them which can eventually lead to a business partnership.

Creating content helps you create better content

Creating great content on LinkedIn requires consistency and a willingness to experiment. By consistently putting out content, you’ll learn what resonates with your audience and what doesn’t.

Here are a few content ideas to consider for your next post:

    • Debunk a popular myth
    • Answer a common question
    • Share a step by step process
    • Mention an avoidable mistake

And, if you tag me in the post I’ll chime it to support your comment. (LinkedIn profile here) This will boost your views since the more engagement your post gets, the more people LinkedIn will show it to.

However, it’s important to remember that the number of likes, views, or comments on your post should not be used as a measure of your expertise or self-worth.

You have valuable knowledge to share . . . the algorithm just may not know it yet.

So, don’t get caught up in the numbers. Just focus on creating valuable, relevant, and engaging content for your audience.

And enjoy the experience while you’re continuing to evolve!

    Action item:

Use one of the content prompts above to create another post. Be sure to tag me in the post so I can chime in.

    Next steps

If you’d like to continue enhancing your LinkedIn presence I highly encourage you to listen to my podcast interview with Justin Welsh (link here).

He’s hands down one of my favorite creators due to his willingness to share step by step processes that help you grow.

And if you really want to level up, check out his online course, The LinkedIn Operation System. This is the exact system I’ve used to grow an engaged, mutually beneficial LinkedIn network.

    That’s it for today.
